DESCRIPTION MAURTEN GEL 100

This is the GEL. A bold statement, but the truth nonetheless. From a technical perspective, traditional "gels" are syrups - mixtures of water and carbohydrates, often with added flavors and preservatives. GEL 100 is completely different. It is a hydrogel - a biopolymer matrix, with a unique fructose to glucose composition (ratio 0.8: 1), which allows the tolerable absorption of up to 100 grams of carbohydrates per hour.

GEL 100 makes use of hydrogel technology and is based on six natural ingredients. It has no colorings or preservatives and is available in 40g portions that contain more than 60% carbohydrates - a high energy to weight ratio.

This is the GEL. One serving contains 25 grams of energy - encapsulated in hydrogel. Without colorings or preservatives.

Hydrogels are widely used in the food industry, where they are used as thickening and gelling agents. A hydrogel is a biopolymer – a water-based structure with tiny pores. This three-dimensional network can absorb water and resembles a sponge in appearance and behavior.

At Maurten we have found a way to create hydrogels with natural ingredients and managed to fill them with the most powerful energy source on the planet: carbohydrates.

The hydrogel in our sports drinks consists of a combination of two ingredients:

Alginate – extracted from the cell walls of brown seaweed

Pectin – as found in apples, lemons, carrots and tomatoes

These two fibers have been used in the food industry for decades. But when combined under the exact conditions, alginate and pectin become a pH-sensitive hydrogel.

GEL 100 - The GEL 100 is a hydrogel - a biopolymer matrix that embeds carbohydrates. It is based on the same concept of drink mixes and allows carbohydrates to be transported smoothly from the stomach to the intestines, where the carbohydrates are absorbed. In our drinks, the hydrogel is formed by the acid in the stomach - but GEL 100 is a production-formed hydrogel, created by combining sodium alginate and calcium carbonate under precise proportions.

APPLICATION

Consume gel shortly before, during or immediately after activity.
